Audition Information:

Welcome, aspiring performers! We’re thrilled to announce auditions for our upcoming production of The Little Mermaid Jr ! This enchanting, family-friendly musical follows Ariel’s journey to discover life on land and find her voice. Below you’ll find everything you need to know to prepare for auditions. We can’t wait to see you bring these beloved characters to life!

Audition Details

Audition Dates: December 9th or December 10th
Location: The Vanity Theater ( Please enter through the Annex)
Time: Drop In – 5pm-7pm
Preparation: Please be prepared to sing a portion of one of the provided music tracks. Make your selection based on the character you are most interested in.

You may also be asked to do a cold reading from the script.

Callbacks Tuesday, December 10th from 7pm-8pm
(Not everyone casted will get a callback, only roles the directors need information in casting)

Vocal Audition Information

For this show, you will audition with the song that corresponds with the role that you most want to get. We have chosen songs that showcase a variety of vocal abilities, so if you’re not sure what role you’d like to audition for – choose the song that best fits your voice and talent.

Attached is a Google Drive with audition tracks. Vocal tracks are provided for practice, but auditions will be with instrumental tracks only.

Song Selection

  • Under the Sea – first 50 seconds (Sebastian, Eric, Undecided or Other Cast) 
  • Part of Your World – first 1 min. 40 sec. (Ariel, or Mersister) 
  • Poor Unfortunate Souls – first 1 min. 10 sec., through 1st chorus (Ursula) 
  • She’s In Love  – from 1:15 – 2:10, Flounder’s solo portion (Scuttle, Flounder)

Character Breakdown

Here’s a breakdown of some of the key roles in The Little Mermaid Jr. along with their character descriptions. Remember, each character brings a unique energy to the story, so consider which role resonates with you as you prepare.

Ariel
Our heroine and youngest daughter of King Triton, Ariel is a brave and curious mermaid with a passion for adventure and a yearning to discover life on land. Must have a strong singing voice as well as acting and ability to convey innocence, wonder, and longing.

Prince Eric
A charming and brave human prince who falls in love with Ariel. Eric is adventurous, kind-hearted, and willing to risk his life for the ones he loves. Requires strong acting and vocal abilities.

Ursula
The powerful and cunning sea witch who delights in using magic to control others. Ursula is charismatic and manipulative, but also has a sense of humor. Requires a commanding stage presence and strong vocal skills.

Sebastian
A Jamaican crab who serves as King Triton’s advisor and Ariel’s reluctant guardian. Sebastian is a high-energy role with comedic timing and a memorable Caribbean accent, dancing background is a plus.

King Triton
Ariel’s protective father and the powerful ruler of the sea. King Triton is strong, regal, and often stern, but he deeply loves his daughters.

Flounder
Ariel’s best friend, Flounder, is a loyal and kind fish who worries about Ariel’s safety but supports her dreams. This role is for an actor with strong acting skills and good physicality.

Scuttle
A funny and scatterbrained seagull who considers himself an expert on humans. Scuttle should have good comedic timing and physicality.

The Mersisters
(Aquata, Andrina, Arista, Atina, Adella, Allana)
Ariel’s sisters who have their own unique personalities. Each has moments to shine individually and collectively.
Key Songs: “Daughters of Triton” “ She’s In Love”

Chef Louis
The palace chef with a flair for the dramatic and an obsession with cooking seafood. Comedic timing is essential.
Key Songs: “Les Poissons”

Flotsam and Jetsam
Ursula’s eel henchmen serve as her spies and work to ensure her plans go smoothly. Strong acting and sense of movement.

Grimsby
Prince Eric’s loyal steward, who wishes Eric would settle down and marry a princess. Grimsby is a speaking role with an emphasis on acting.

Ensemble Roles
There are a variety of ensemble roles in this production and they are all amazing and valued opportunities to be part of the cast!

5. Embrace Feedback: We may ask you to try something different during the audition. This is a chance to show your flexibility and creativity!
